Olympic Dam is the first at BHP to have its Health and Safety Management Systems receive ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certification, an internationally recognised best practice standard.
The certification, along with the asset's recertification of ISO 9001 Quality and ISO 14001 Environment, will ensure Olympic Dam’s ongoing compliance and fulfilment with the London Metal Exchange responsible producer requirements, environmental licence obligations, the major hazard facility Safety Case, the Principal Mining Hazard Management Plan, International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM) and Copper Mark membership expectations.
This acheivement is the result of a 5 year journey developing the Integrated Management System (IMS), which has involved site-wide multi-disciplinary collaboration across teams and functions at Olympic Dam
Head of Health, Safety & Environment at Olympic Dam, Martin Smith said, "The Integrated Management System provides the foundation for all we do at Olympic Dam to deliver safe, stable, sustainable operations. It combines all of our health, safety, environment and quality processes into a single system that improves simplicity, effectiveness and efficiency of what matters most - supporting the wellbeing and safety of our workforce and sustainably delivering copper to the world."
This certfication is just one more step on our never-ending safety journey, reinforcing the value Olympic Dam places on safe, stable, reliable and sustainable operations.
