The Sierra Gorda local development support program supports local businesses and strengthens local suppliers in Minera Spence’s host community.
The program seeks to improve the livelihood of local residents through building confidence and skills with a focus on helping entrepreneurial, small to medium businesses become sustainable. Businesses are supported at a structural level through the provision of tools, equipment and infrastructure, and with basic governance and management support.
In 2016, the program benefitted more than 10 entrepreneurs and microbusiness owners, half of whom were women. The growth of these businesses created a direct and positive impact on their owners, generated local employment and supported economic development in the region. The program has also raised awareness in the community about the benefits of creating sustainable local businesses.
