BHP’s Olympic Dam team will participate in South Australia’s largest job fair, JOBEX, in Adelaide this week and Port Augusta on 20 November.

Olympic Dam expects to recruit around 120 diverse new roles over the next 12 months and will join other employers in energy and resources, renewables, IT and high-tech manufacturing, defence and ship building to talk about the jobs of the future.

Olympic Dam’s Asset President, Jacqui McGill, said JOBEX would help attract a diverse workforce to South Australia’s largest mining and processing operation.

“Events like JOBEX are a great opportunity for our #OlympicDamSquad members to meet and talk with potential new recruits about some of the great work we’re doing in South Australia and the exciting opportunities ahead of us.”

With planned spending of more than A$600 million in the Olympic Dam operation this financial year, Ms McGill said the Company was looking for diverse talent to join the operation and help execute these important projects.

“We have a great future, we have sustainable growth plans and we are investing right here in South Australia to make the Olympic Dam operation modern and technologically advanced,” she said.

“We’ve had some great success recruiting people from outside mining and appealing to people with diverse experience and background. It is a really exciting time to be part of the industry, and part of Olympic Dam, and we want people from truck drivers to technology professionals to engineers, and everything in between to join us.

“At BHP we want our operations to reflect the diverse communities we operate in. We have begun using social media more to reach a broader talent pool, but nothing beats a face to face conversation which is why events like JOBEX are so important.”

BHP has a workforce of around 3,500 in South Australia based in Roxby Downs and supporting the operation from Adelaide in the heart of the CBD.
